Salaries of all civil servants to be increased next year

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday night, announced his administration’s decision to increase the salaries of all civil servants starting next January.

He made the announcement during campaign a rally at B. Thulaadhoo, detailing that the state budget for the next year will include the funds required for the salary increments.

“By the will of God, our aim is to increase the salaries of civil servants in all sectors starting next January through the budget we approve next. You will see a positive change to the salaries of all civil servants including military, police, customs, immigration, corrections, the judiciary and councils starting next January,” he said.

As per the president, the increments will be applicable to a total of 44,208 people.

“As I believe, no administration has done this before, nor has envisioned to do this,” he added.

President Solih, citing financial stability as an important factor for a happy life, stressed the importance of setting a minimum wage for financial stability. He noted that increments have already been brought to the salaries of education and health sector workers – a positive change which he states is now being felt by the families of these workers.

“We will end this pay harmonization after bringing positive changes to salaries of all civil servants,” he said.

President Solih said that an average of a 40 percent increase in salaries can be expected.

In this regard, he detailed that police constables, presently receiving MVR 11,000, will receive MVR 15,400 after the increment.

Speaking further, the president said work on many things necessary for a happy and peaceful life has been commenced in the course of his current term.
