If elected, Nazim pledges to establish 'Unmeedhu Fund' for low-income people

Dhangethi MP and MNP presidential candidate, Colonel Retired Mohamed Nazim, has pledged that he will establish a fund worth MVR 1 billion named, “Unmeedhuge Fund” for low-income people and will fairly distribute among them if he gets elected.

Speaking at the meeting held last night to reveal his manifesto for the people of Male’, Nazim said that he has personally listened to the individual complaints of people from over 50 islands that he has visited in his campaign.

He said that he met people that are in debt due to a multitude of reasons and people who haven't had their basic needs met and that he now knows what the solution is for these issues.

“I have decided that I will establish Unmeedhu Fund with Mvr 1 billion, should I be successful in the upcoming election and am able to in that chair,” Nazim said.

His fund will help:

• People who are unable to repay their loans
• People who need aid for medical reasons
• People who are unable to pay bills and or rent
• People who are having issues in housing their families
• Those who find it difficult to make ends meet in other ways
• People who run small businesses from their homes

This fund will be one of the biggest projects of Nazim's administration.

Until the funds are exhausted, funds will be disbursed in the order in which assistance is requested.

“The most important thing in setting up this fund was the complaint people made when I visited many islands and many households in Male’. I could not bear to see their tears,” Nazim said.

He said the state should spend the bulk of its revenue on the low-income population.

Registration for the fund is now open.

Without a proper plan, Male’ has come to this point, which is the root cause of many social problems, Nazim said.

“Therefore, I prepared the development plan of the city with the intention of finding out the major problems in the city and providing convenience to the people,” he said.

Nazim said the problem in the city is not only the lack of housing.

“No permanent hopeful solutions have been found. However, my opinions are very different. I think the city needs the wisdom to solve the problem of planning, congestion, housing and other health and social issues that arise from this main problem,” Nazim said.
