The final list of recipients of 5,000 plots of land under the government’s ‘Binveriya’ scheme has been publicly gazetted.

Individuals with the status ‘recipients of land in the first round’ on the final list are those who will be awarded land presently allotted from Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu while individuals with the status ‘recipients of land in the second round’ on the list will be awarded land from additional land to be allocated for issuance under this scheme.

Housing Ministry, in the announcement accompanying the final list, said they will now move on to the next stage which is taking a draw among individuals set to receive land in the first round, and establishing the property boundaries accordingly.

“We note we will be informing the recipients of the time and place for the draw through the online portal, SMS, and email,” the announcement added.

Notably, the number of people deemed eligible for land had increased by a silver in the final list. While the provisional list stated 19,858 people as eligible, the final list states 19,865 people as eligible.

Housing Ministry, in a press conference held last night, said 18,955 people will be awarded land from presently allocated areas under the scheme. The remaining 684 people - mostly individuals under the age of 25, who are single and without children – will be awarded plots from additional land to be allocated for issuance under this scheme.

Speaking at last night’s press conference, State Minister for Housing Akram Kamaluddin said 2,000 individuals under the age of 25 are receiving land this time around, as a result of joint applications.

Akram stressed that the Ministry, before the end of this term, will establish the property boundaries and hand over the registries of the land plots to its beneficiaries.

The government released the provisional list of recipients under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme on June 26. After the release, individuals who were deemed eligible but failed to make the shortlist, were granted the chance to submit joint applications.

Housing Ministry, on Friday, said 50 percent of the land reclamation project in Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu is now complete.

The government released the provisional list of recipients of flats under the 'Gedhoruvariya' scheme on August 8th, which is now open for complaints till August 22nd.
