President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, in his pledges for Gemanafushi in Gaafu Alifu Atoll if elected for a second term in office, has included the reclamation of the island and the development of a resort at nearby uninhabited island, Araigaiththa.

The president, in his ongoing campaign tour of Gaafu Alifu Atoll, visited Gemanafushi, as the last island for the day.

Speaking at a meeting held with the residents of the island tonight, the president announced he had a number of plans for the development of Gemanafushi during a second term as well.

They include:

  • Development of a multipurpose hall at the island’s school
  • Construction of a new office building for the island council
  • Development of housing units
  • Developing a resort in Araigaiththa
  • Development of a 30-bed hospital
  • Developing a facility to weigh and store fish

The president, initially, omitted the reclamation while announcing the pledge mistakenly. When residents requested to include the reclamation of the island on the list, the president said it was already on the list.

“Reclamation is included among the list of pledges for this island during a second term. I missed it from the list. Along with reclamation, a swimming area for the residents will also be established,” he said.

President Solih also said asphalt will be laid on roads planned to be developed on the island, ensuring modern standards.
