A fire broke out in a home in the Hithadhoo district of Addu City on early Monday, leaving one person injured with burns, and the house damaged beyond repair.
According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the fire broke out at the ‘Kulhibalaabey’ house in Hithadhoo at around 04:10 am on Monday.
The fire was put out after over an hour’s battle by firefighters from the Hithadhoo Fire Station, at 05:45 am.
The fire had spread to the entire house, damaging the furniture and household appliances beyond use.
Hithadhoo councilman Ahmed Saeed told Sun that the house had been rented out by its owners, who reside in Male’.
The cause of the fire is unclear at this point.
The exact number of people who reside in the house was not immediately clear either.
However, according to the MNDF, a male resident at the house sustained burn injuries to his hand and legs in the incident.
He is being treated at the hospital.
According to Saeed, the residents of the house are being assisted by the council and other relevant state agencies.
