The Election Commission (EC) has decided to set up 604 ballot boxes for the September 9 presidential election.
EC’ vice chairman Ismail Habeeb said on Twitter on Monday that a total of 604 ballot boxes will be set up in Maldives and abroad.
319 ballot boxes will be set up in residential islands outside the greater Male’ area, and 78 resorts.
Male’, where both registered residents of the capital as well as a large number of people from the atolls will vote, will have 187 ballot boxes.
Overseas countries where ballot boxes will be placed:
Four ballot boxes will be set up in Sri Lanka and four in Malaysia. The rest of the countries will have one ballot box each.
Habeeb said the number of ballot boxes may change once voter re-registration is compete.
He said the EC will announce the details, including the number, name and code of ballot boxes and the locations, on Monday night.
A total of 283,272 people are eligible to vote in this year's election.
