Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s chairperson, Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has stated that a good governance system desired by Maldivian citizens have been established at present despite the multitude of obstructions posed.
Speaking at a rally held at Sh. Foakaidhoo on Sunday night to launch President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s presidential campaign, Fayyaz shared MDP’s journey to democracy.
“A journey we commenced many years ago. It was a journey commences to establish a democratic system in this nation which ensures basic human rights such as freedom of expression and protection from torture and cruelty and where the citizens are heard,” he said.
Fayyaz, noting the journey was filled with a multitude of obstructions, said although the destination was reached as hoped, much sadder days were posed next.
“Not a moment to relax. We were stranded at sea once again. Had to rebegin the journey once against. Had to proceed with a journey in a much fragile state than before,” he said, describing the journey as one Maldivians will never forget.
Fayyaz said the journey was brought to an end at a safe destination by President Solih.
“We have attained a safe destination today. A good governance desired by the Maldivians has been nurtured despite a multitude of obstructions,” he said.
Fayyaz underscored that protection of citizens has been guaranteed under this administration while basic services pleaded by the people have been provided for them – with the foundation for the development of the nation has been laid.
“Development never seen before in the Maldives has been attained at present. Be it any sector, economy or social,” he added.
Fayyaz also said there was no doubt regarding President Solih’s journey for a second term.
“The difference of this journey is, contradictory to before, we are in a really strong position. Our vessel is well-equipped. We are commencing the journey after installing an engine so good that competitors cannot reach us,” he said.
