President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih states that the coalition he has formed for the upcoming presidential election is the biggest such coalition to date, with membership set to pass 90,000 ahead of the September poll.
In a visit to Sh. Maroshi on Sunday, President Solih said the coalition, composed of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), and the Adhaalath Party (AP), already have over 77,700 members.
“This is the biggest coalition formed for a presidential election,” he said.
President Solih said the numbers will pass 90,000 as the election nears.
President Solih made several electoral pledges to the people of Maroshi on Sunday. This included the promise to conduct a coastal protection project, the promise to reclaim and issue land, construct 50 social housing units, develop the roads, launch ATM services, and develop a turf ground for football.
He said that Maroshi would be “re-drawn into Maldives’ chart” under his administration’s policy “not to leave any island behind”.
“Maroshi was the first island to have a water and sanitation project contracted during our administration,” he said.
He said he would do everything possible to expedite the completion of the sanitation project, and highlighted on the ongoing harbor development project in the island.
President Solih said that MDP had begun its campaign to reform Maldives years back, with the involvement of the people of Maroshi.
He said the purpose of the efforts which began back then was to affect the positive changes being seen today.
