Fire burns down three speedboats at Naifaru harbor

A fire burned down three speedboats docked at Lh. Naifaru harbor; a loss that has been placed at over MVR 9.5 lakhs. 

Naifaru Council President Ahmed Sajid told Sun on Sunday that the incident took place between 3:00am and 4:00am on early Sunday morning as a result of which all three speedboats have been burned beyond use.

The price of each speedboat is placed at MVR 3.5 lakhs. 

Sajid, noting all three speedboats were docked next to each other, said it is likely the fire broke out on one of them and spread to each other.

However, the cause of the fire has not been identified.

Sajid said the speedboats were utilized for travel to Madivaru Airport and other islands in the atoll. He detailed that the three speedboats belonged to three different people, while they were all in use till the fire this morning.

No one sustained injuries in the fire.

Sajid said the police is investigating the case further.

One of the speedboats burned in the fire has been overturned as per photos of the three speedboats circulating on social media.
