Maldives Development Alliance (MDA)’s president and Dh. Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed thanks and congratulates president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on the release of the preliminary list of land plot recipients for the ‘Binveriya’ Housing scheme.
Last year, the government-initiated applications for allocating land reclaimed from Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu, and 4,000 flats under construction.
The list, which was released yesterday, include 10,314 names. The government has also decided to give land to more than 9,500 people who are not on the list, but are eligible.
In a tweet yesterday, Siyam applauded the president, and said that the land allocation will bring about a systematic change to the longstanding issue of land shortage in the city.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude and congratulations to the President for bringing about a revolutionary solution to the biggest issue of the people of the city,” he said.
5,164 applications were submitted for land under the ‘Binveriya’ Housing scheme. That is, 23,801 people. Of these, 12,794 forms or 19,857 people are eligible.
Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam said yesterday that although 5,000 plots have been announced for the time being, the government's policy is to allocate land to all the eligible applicants.
"The government has decided to give land to all those who qualified for the program, as a government policy. However, you can see the list of 5,000 lands that were initially announced today," said the minister.
"The government has a policy of keeping this list as a live list and arranging it for the rest of the beneficiaries," added the minister.
The minimum size of land allocated by the Government in the Male area is 1,250 acres. For applications submitted by more than one person, 400 acres of land will be added for each additional person. If more than seven people are involved in one application a total of 4,000 acres will be given.
