Maldives National University (MNU) has awarded MVR 3.9 million in grants for research and literature to 12 parties.
The recipients received their award letter in a ceremony held at the MNU on Wednesday.
Nine people applied for grants to write books. The proposals were reviewed by the MNU’s book writing grants committee, which selected four proposals. The four received total MVR 255,500.
Meanwhile, 11 people applied for research grants. The research grants committee selected eight proposals. They received MVR 3,666,284 in grants.
MNU has awarded total MVR 3,916,784 in grants. However, the grant amount for individual projects hasn’t been disclosed.
Speaking at the grants award ceremony, MNU’s deputy vice chancellor Dr. Aisthath Shehenaz Adam said the main purpose of the grants program is to create and spread knowledge.
“The purpose of the book writing grant is to develop the field of literature and promote literature among the university’s staff and students. And the purpose of the research grant is to encourage staff and students to conduct research, and establish a culture of research in this university,” she said.
