Dr. Ashraf: Must know how to thrive in workforce after attaining top prizes

Dhivehi Language Academy’s President Dr. Ashraf Abdul Raheem speaks at Imaadhuddin School's Prize Day 2023.

Dhivehi Language Academy’s President Dr. Ashraf Abdul Raheem has stressed the importance of knowing how to thrive in the workforce after attaining top prizes during school period.

Speaking as the special guest at Imaadhudhin School’s Prize Day on Thursday night, Dr. Ashraf said whether results students attain in school are effectively applied in their lives must be considered today.

He underscored the need to integrate additional features into the Maldivian education system to ensure students thrive in the workforce. Dr. Ashraf detailed these included teaching students good behavioral qualities and time efficiency.

“We do not know who, among you students, will become a medical doctor tomorrow. What is the point of a golden prize during school if a doctor fails to be present for an appointment with the patient on time?” he said.

In this trajectory, Dr. Ashraf shared the lessons learned from the lives of some prominent international figures.

“It is said that when Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah enters the parliament, the officials there will adjust the time accordingly (as he arrives earlier than he is supposed to). What a powerful figure,” he said.

Nevertheless, Dr. Ashraf urged students who attained prizes at the ceremony not to be disheartened, and to move forward concrete targets.

“Should push on and get up every time you fall. The world shows us to follow this path. Alibaba’s co-founder, Jack Ma, failed 10 tests for admittance at the world-renowned Harvard University. He faced many other unsuccess apart from this as well.  Nonetheless, he is one the richest people in Asia today,” Dr. Ashraf exampled from the life of Jack Ma.

He added that success is the right of those who work for it. On this note, he said all students have this opportunity.
