Reconstitution of the parliament’s standing committees has been slated for Wednesday sittings multiple days after the parliament’s works have been stalled following the changes to the composition of the parliament.

The change in the composition of the parliament was prompted by the resignation of 13 lawmakers belonging to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) from the party. Speaker Mohamed Nasheed announced the changes required to reconstitute the parliament’s committees on May 23rd.

The reconstitution has been stalled over disagreements between political parties.

Subsequently, no-confidence motions filed against Attorney General Ibrahim RIffath, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, Speaker Nasheed and Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla have also been stalled.

However, the reconstitution of the standing committees has been slated first on Wednesday’s agenda. The committees will be reconstituted to include representatives from political parties and independent lawmakers.
