MIRA inspects offices of a company following court warrant

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has started inspecting the offices of a company suspected of tax fraud. The investigation is being carried out under a search warrant issued by the court.

MIRA officials checked the office of Treasure Biz International and its outlet store “Treasury” around 10:30 this morning. The company is an import and wholesale company. MIRA’s investigation team is working in the presence of the Police.

An official from MIRA said that this is the first such operation undertaken by the authority and that the inspection is being carried out after obtaining a proper court warrant. The court warrant allows MIRA to search and inspect the offices as necessary to carry out their investigation.

Sun Online has come to know that the company had under-declared its Business Profit Tax (BPT).
