President’s Office has decided to question State Minister for Environment Hassan Mughnee following a tweet last week in which he called President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih a “thief”.

Minister at President’s office, Ibrahim Waheed (Iburey) told Sun on Monday that Mughnee’s tweet is in violation of the code of conduct for political appointees.

The tweet in question was made via Mughnee’s official Twitter account on Thursday. In addition to calling the president a “thief”, he described heads of state-owned enterprises as “incompetent”.

He named individual managing directors, and accused them of corruption.

Mughnee, a member of Jumhoory Party (JP), had previously served as managing director of State Electric Company (STELCO). However, in 2022, he was appointed as a state minister – a job with a significantly lower paycheck.

Mughnee was replaced as head of STELCO by Ahmed Shareef.
