Southern Area Squadron of the Maldives National Defense Forces (MNDF) has begun a marine safety awareness program at Gaafu Alifu Vilingili yesterday.
A spokesperson from the MNDF said that the program was being conducted by the MNDF in partnership with the Island Council at the capital island of Gaafu Alifu atoll.
Experts of MNDF yesterday conducted the program for the crew of Fahimagu 303, a fishing boat operated at Vilingili. 22 persons participated in yesterday’s program.
The program was conducted with the help of MNDF Coastguard vessel Iskandaru, and the participants of the program were given practical training in handling emergencies at sea.
Among others, the participants were given training in responding to fires onboard, deal with a person who falls from the vessel into the sea, how to handle a situation of distress.
