Education Ministry, on Sunday, stated that the teacher shortage faced at Gaafu Alifu Atoll Education Centre has now been resolved.

Gaafu Alifu Atoll Education Centre, based in Villingili, was facing a prominent shortage of A’ Level teachers. Parents, sharing their concerns with Sun last week, said the school was short of four teachers as the A’ Level examination nears. This included teachers for subjects Accounts, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry.

Education Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Ahmed Ali told Sun on Sunday that the concerns were brought to the attention of the Ministry last week following which the Ministry has now resolved the issue.

“Students of the school will no longer have to struggle with losing their studies over the absence of a teacher,” he added.

Providing more details regarding the matter, Education Ministry’s Spokesperson said Accounts was previously taught at Gaafu Alifu Atoll Education Centre by a teacher from another school. The Spokesperson said a new Accounts teacher has been sent to the school.

Meanwhile, the Spokesperson said existing Biology and Chemistry teachers at the school will continue to teach students. While the Mathematics teacher departed last week’s Sunday, the Spokesperson noted efforts were underway to recruit a new teacher.

“However, arrangements have been made to teach Mathematics to students starting next week,” the Spokesperson added.

Gaafu Alifu Atoll Education Centre’s Principal Thamheen confirmed to Sun that the teacher shortage had been resolved. Thamheen, noting the school was only lacking a Mathematics teacher at present, said alternate arrangements have been made to take classes.

Th. Madifushi School parents also protested on Wednesday over shortage of teachers at the school.
