3 new members elected to MMC

Maldives Media Council holds by-election on April 29, 2023.

Maldives Media Council (MMC) has elected three new members to the council.

The voting took place between 10:00 am and 11:00 am Saturday, in a polling station set up on the ground floor of Velana Building.

MMC elected a representative of the media and two representatives of the general public.

Two candidates contested for the position of media representative. Habaru Online’s Ali Adam won the election with 64 votes.

The remaining two slots were won by Jailam Thaufeeq with 49 votes, and Ali Ismail with 43 votes.

85 media outlets operating in Maldives were registered to vote in Saturday’s election. 72 outlets participated in the voting.

The MMC by-election was held following the resignation of two members and the expiration of the term of another.

MMC members are elected for a two-year term.
