Maldivian pilgrim dies in Mecca

A Maldivian man on Umrah pilgrimage has died in Saudi Arabia.

Mohamed Zaki, 83, Gasdhoshuge, GA. Kolamaafushi, had travelled to Mecca for Umrah with five members of his wife’s family.

They travelled with the Al-Buruj group, which reports Zaki died at around midnight Monday, Saudi time.

According to Al-Buruj, Zaki died shortly after he arrived at his hotel in Mecca after spending two days in Medina. He had been due to perform a second pilgrimage.

His funeral prayer will be held at the Masjid al-Haram after Dhuhr prayer Tuesday, with assistance of the Maldivian Consulate in Jeddah and Maldivian students in Mecca.

Scores of Maldivians had travelled to Mecca in Ramadan for Umrah pilgrimage.
