Maldivian begin using ATR aircrafts for Cochin flights

The national carrier of Maldives - Maldivian on Sunday revealed that one of its most recently acquired ATR aircrafts is being used for flights to The national carrier of Maldives - Maldivian on Sunday revealed that one of its most recently acquired ATR aircrafts is being used for flights to Cochin, India.

Speaking with Sun, an official from Maldivian said that this was due to a decrease in demand for this particular destination. It was noted that the A320/320 aircrafts will still be used for flights to Cochin. 

In addition to this, the official said that the ATR72-600 had the capacity of flying to Cochin. 

This marks the first flight for the new ATR flights Maldivian added to its fleet. A total of MVR 925 million was incurred to purchase the three aircraft which will be paid through a loan.

Maldivian presently utilized Dash-8 aircrafts for its operations. The airline’s target is to build an ATR fleet to cease the use of Dash-8 aircrafts.

Island Aviation’s Managing Director Mohamed Mihad, in an earlier statement, the company’s aim is two purchase an additional three ATR aircrafts before the end of this year to increase Maldivian’s ATR fleet to six.
