Increased cases of COVID-19, viral fever reported last week

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has cautioned the public regarding the increased number of COVID-19, viral fever and flu cases reported recently.

An official from HPA told Sun on Tuesday that said increased cases of viral fever were reported last week, noting specific numbers will be disclosed later.

However, the latest statistics disclosed by HPA show an increase in four diseases last month which include viral flu, diarrhea, conjunctivitis and chicken pox.

In this regard, 30,628 cases of flu were reported in February, climbing higher than the 29,307 cases in January. 

Nevertheless, noting the increased cases of viral fever and flu reported last week, HPA has advised the public to exercise preventive measures.

Although COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives have been consistently low over the past several months – a slight increase was observed last month. In this regard, 16 cases were reported last week, while 11 cases had been reported during the week before. Only six cases had been reported in the first week of the month.

To date, Maldives has recorded a total of 185,771 COVID-19 cases and 311 subsequent fatalities.
