Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to reopen applications for the position of the chief judge of High Court, after the original vacancy announcement failed to attract any applications.

The top position within High Court fell vacant following the retirement of Hathif Hilmy. Judge Hussain Shaheed has been serving as the acting chief judge since his retirement.

JSC states that they received zero applications by the deadline Monday.

The commission said they will therefore reopen applications.

The position is open to judges already serving at the High Court. The reopening of applications will come after the High Court appointed a new judge – the Criminal Court’s former chief judge Ahmed Shakeel.

Shakeel, too, will have the opportunity to apply for the post.
