BML staff collect eight-ton waste in Male’ clean-up

Bank of Maldives (BML) staff, on Friday, carried out a clean-up of Male’ City where they collected eight-ton waste from 12 locations.

The staff, during the clean-up, collected six jumbo bags of plastics which were handed over to Parley to be recycled.

Locations cleaned up by BML staff on Friday include Artificial Beach, Carnival Area, Industrial Zone, Rasfaanu and Local Market area. The staff also painted the Local Market on the sidelines of the clean-up.

Approximately 200 BML employees took part in the clean-up which was held from 6:30am to 9:00am on Friday morning in collaboration with Male’ City Council and Dive Desk.

The clean-up was held to commemorate International Day of Happiness – which is annually marked on March 20^th.

Commenting on the event, BML’s Public Relations Manager Mohamed Saeed said that the areas cleaned on Friday comprised abundant numbers of plastic bags and bottles. He added that tires and plastics were collected during a dive near Number 1 Jetty.

“A large number of plastic bottles and plastic bags were collected from the lagoon near the fish market using nets. Cooperation from staff for the event is noted. Thanking all staff who took part in the event. Special thanks to Male’ City Council for the assistance rendered,” he said.

Clean-up events are intermittently held by BML staff.
