FM Shahid partakes in Commonwealth Day festivities

Reception hosted by King Charles II and Queen Consort Camilla for foreign ministers of Commonwealth nations on Commonwealth Day.

As part of his ongoing official visit to the UK, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid took part in Commonwealth Day festivities on Tuesday.

Commonwealth Day, celebrated on the second Monday of each March, is aimed at uniting all Commonwealth citizens in celebration of their shared values and principles, and in pursuit of a common future, centered on sustainability and peace.

The theme for this year’s Commonwealth Day is  ‘Forging a Sustainable and Peaceful Common Future’.

As part of Commonwealth Day festivities – Minister Shahid participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Commonwealth Memorial Gates in remembrance of Commonwealth soldiers who laid down their lives during various wars. Minister Shahid, alongside his counterparts from Commonwealth nations, laid down wreaths at the Memorial.

He also attended a flag hoisting ceremony at the Marlborough House, the headquarters of Commonwealth nation, dubbed the ‘Flag for Peace’.

Additionally, Minister Shahid attended a reception hosted by King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla for foreign ministers of Commonwealth nations visiting the UK to attend a meeting of Commonwealth nations’ foreign ministers scheduled for tomorrow.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by Maldivian Ambassador to the UK Dr. Farahnaz Faisal.

A ‘Flag for Peace’ flag hoisting ceremony was also held at L. Gan’s Hamadh Bin Khalifa Al Thani School to commemorate Commonwealth Day.
