The second Monday of March is annually celebrated as Commonwealth Day. This year’s theme on the occasion is ‘Forging a Sustainable and Peaceful Common Future’.
Maldives joined the Commonwealth in 1982, and withdrew its membership in 2016 during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration. The island nation rejoined the Commonwealth in 2020 after President Solih assumed office.
