Police provided the assurance in a statement Wednesday, after local actress Aminath Rishfa accused the police of leaking private photos and videos on her phone.

Police said they adhere to laws and international practice in safeguarding the evidence in their custody.

“This service has full confidence in lack of leakage of data from evidence in custody of Forensics,” said the police.

Police said the work of the Forensics Lab is arranged in a manner that ensures protection of privacy.

Rishfa, one of a dozen people arrested in a raid on an apartment in Male’ in a counter narcotics operation on November 10, 2022, wrote on Facebook on Tuesday that her phone had been under custody of police from November to December, and that she had given her password under court order.

She said that three officers from the Forensics Department had access to her phone.

Rishfa accused the police of leaking photos and videos she had on her phone.

“And now all my photos and videos are in public sites…. Humiliation is all I got out of it. Who will be responsible for this action? How can we ever trust these sick people who are misusing the power of their uniform?” she wrote.

Rishfa said she would make sure the people responsible are brought to justice through the court.
