President Solih: Policy against disregarding any sport bearing fruit

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, underscoring one his administration’s main policies being against disregarding any sport, stated that efforts in the trajectory are now bearing fruit.

He made the remark during a meeting with the men's national beach volleyball and bodybuilding teams held at the President’s Office on Monday. The men’s national beach volleyball team recently won gold at the Central Asian Beach Volleyball Tournament. The national bodybuilding team won one gold, one silver, and four bronze at the World Bodybuilding and Physique Championships. It is the first gold medals for the Maldives at the beach volleyball tournament and bodybuilding championship.

The meeting was also attended by Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof and officials of the volleyball and bodybuilding associations.

During the meeting, the President congratulated them on their recent success at the international sports tournaments.

Noting of the administration’s policy against disregarding any sport – he emphasized the administration’s commitment to sports development and providing opportunities for local athletes. The President added that these efforts are bearing fruit.

President Solih also assured the teams that the administration remains committed to providing more training opportunities – emphasizing beach volleyball and water sports are two fields that could be developed further.

Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof, speaking at the meeting, highlighted the administration's achievements in developing sports over the past four years, including the recent wins for the beach volleyball and bodybuilding teams. He also extended his gratitude to President Solih for his commitment to developing sports. 

Meanwhile, members of beach volleyball and building associations briefed the President on upcoming events and tournaments.
