PPM’s Hulhumale’ constituency president and senate member Abdul Samad (Samadhube) detained by Indian Immigration while he was visiting the country for medical purposes has returned to Maldives.

He arrived in Maldives late Monday afternoon.

Speaking to the press at the airport, Samad detailed he was taken into custody by Indian Immigration while he was at Manipal Hospital in Bangalore citing an issue with his passport.

“When asked what was the issue, (they) replied I had offended. That staying in India was not permitted, and entry to India was not permitted," he said.

Samad spent approximately 18 hours in Indian Immigration’s custody.

In a statement released by the opposition coalition on Sunday evening regarding the matter, they expressed concern because no one, including his family, had heard from Samad after he was taken into custody by Indian Immigration.
