Statistics show that tourist arrivals to the Maldives so far this year exceeded the previous two years.
The statistics publicized by Tourism Ministry show that Maldives recorded 94,261 tourist arrivals as of February 1st in 2021. Meanwhile, in 2022, 136, 146 tourist arrivals were recorded during the same period.
The island nation recorded 178,159 tourist arrivals in the same period this year – marking a 30 percent increase.
Russia hails as the largest tourist market to the Maldives this year – with 24,154 arrivals. The world’s largest nation was the second-largest tourist market to the Maldives last year.
While tourist arrivals to the Maldives have been restored to pre-pandemic levels at the present – 69 percent of the tourists who traveled to the island nation this year chose to stay at resorts for their vacation. Twenty-three percent of tourists stayed at guesthouses while five percent stayed on safaris.
Guesthouses are in operation at 116 islands in the Maldives with the largest number of guesthouses being located in Kaafu, Alifu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu and Vaavu atolls.
The government has forecasted tourist arrivals this year would exceed last year's.
