President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has conveyed condolences to the family of the young Scout who died off Maafushivaru Resort on Monday.

In a tweet Tuesday morning, President Solih described Nishah Abdul Gafoor, 18, as “an example of courage and humanity”.

He said that Nishah had brought honor to the Maldives Scout Association through the good deeds he did during his life.

“May Almighty Allah bless his soul and provide patience to his family,” he said.

Nishah, who tragically drowned Monday, had rescued a young boy from drowning in R. Inguraidhoo on November 18, 2018.

He had received national recognition from the president in response to the incident in 2019.

Maldives Scout Association described Nishah’s death as a great loss to the entire Scout family.

Nishah is described by those who knew him as someone who loved the ocean. He had worked at Maafushivaru as a diver.
