A man arrested with a large quantity of drugs in a counter-narcotics operation Wednesday has been released from police custody because he wasn’t served a search warrant before the police searched his residence.
The suspect, a 36-year-old male, was arrested on suspicion of illegal storage, trade and trafficking of drugs and alcohol.
The police found drugs during a search of his apartment at the Sinamale’ flats in Galolhu district of Male’ City.
At his remand hearing Thursday, the Criminal Court found he wasn’t served with a search warrant before the police raided his apartment.
The court found the evidence found in the search was therefore illegally obtained.
He was released due to lack of evidence.
