Maldives seeks India’s assistant to develop drug rehab centers

Maldives and India have engaged in discussions regarding developing drug detoxification and rehabilitation centers in Maldives, with the possibility of periodic visits from doctors and psychiatrist from India.

The discussions took place in a meeting between Maldivian Vice President Faisal Naseem and Indian High Commissioner Munu Mahawar at the President’s Office on Tuesday.

At the meeting, Faisal expressed gratitude to the Indian government for its continued support to Maldives through high impact community development projects.

He also talked about the possibility of facilitating drug detox and rehab centers in Maldives, with periodic visits from Indian doctors and psychiatrists.

Faisal and Mahawar also discussed the development of human resources in Maldives’ health sector through training and vocational training opportunities for Maldivians, and the development of the sports sector in Maldives.

Further discussions were held on ways Indian start-up incubators could provide capacity-building and training opportunities for private sector businesses in Maldives.

At the meeting, Mahawar expressed India's keenness to provide medical and pharmaceutical equipment to Maldives.

He also assured Faisal of India's continued support and assistance to Maldives.

Both Faisal and Mahawar expressed eagerness for continued relations and cooperation between Maldives and India.
