President Solih: Will build an airport at Dhidhdhoo if elected

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Tuesday, has pledged to build an airport at HA. Dhidhdhoo if he succeeds in the upcoming presidential election.

Speaking at a campaign event for Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) presidential primary at Dhidhdhoo on Tuesday night – President Solih said that an airport is a matter that cannot not be talked about. He added that a manifesto will be drawn up for the presidential election after MDP’s primary.

“Manifesto will be formulated with your recommendations. The manifesto will include the development of an airport at this island,” he said.

While President Solih has pledged the development of an airport at Dhidhdhoo – opposition leader former President, in a campaign trip to Dhidhdhoo in October, also pledged to develop an airport at the island.

Speaking at a campaign event in Dhidhdhoo, Yameen vowed to reclaim Dhidhdhoo lagoon for the development of an airport. He said that if he succeeds in the upcoming presidential election – an airport will be built at Dhidhdhoo at the completion of his electoral term.

At tonight’s campaign event, President Solih said that the current administration plans projects after careful planning and securing the required funds.

Underscoring the difficulties faced by his administration due to the COVID-19 pandemic – President Solih said that his administration had only gotten approximately two and a half years to carry out developmental projects. Nevertheless, he underscored the magnitude of infrastructural and social development projects underway at various islands in atolls.

President Solih also revealed acceptance of a proposal by Dhidhdhoo MP Abdulla Waheed to include an additional 25 housing units in the 75 housing units presently under construction at the island, which he stated was proceeding accordingly.

Additionally, President Solih noted that land would be reclaimed from Dhidhdhoo for the development of a tertiary hospital. He said that work will also be initiated to develop an outdoor gym, a junior college and additional classrooms at the island.
