MIRA collects MVR 13M as GST in 2023’s first week, after tax hike

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) states it has collected over MVR 13 million as Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the first week of this year.

Information released by MIRA shows the authority collected over MVR 13 million as GST and over MVR 15 million as Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) in the first week.

The authority also collected over MVR 12 million as Business Profit Tax, and over MVR 1 million as Non-Resident Withholding Tax.

MIRA collected over MVR 12 million as Green Tax, over MVR 16 million as Airport Service Charge and Airport Development Fee, and over MVR 15 million in other taxes and fees.

MIRA also collected over MVR 56 million as Tourism Land Rent.

Maldives increased GST from six to eight percent and TGST from 12 to 16 percent this year. The change is expected to double the state’s revenue.
