He is accompanied on this visit by senior government officials including Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, Environment Minister Aminath Shauna, Gender Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi and Education Minister Aishath Ali.

Speaking to the residents, he underscored that Addu residents have always worked towards change. The President said that Addu residents had remained this way, since the inception of MDP. He also noted many senior posts in MDP were held by members from Addu City.

Citing these reasons, President Solih stressed that MDP would not exist without the support of Addu residents.

“I remember the sacrifices of Addu residents when this party was incepted. Today even, Addu residents are with this party. Senior posts of the party have been filled by Addu residents; sometimes with significant obstructions and difficulties. These obstructions are sometimes faced by the party members in Addu City. Nevertheless, this party would not exist without Addu City residents,” he said.

Speaking further, President Solih emphasized on the importance of Addu City’s development – remarking Maldives would not have developed without Addu City’s development.

“It should be Addu City which first experiences the positive impacts of changes to the Maldives. Maldives would not develop without Addu City developing,” he said.

President Solih is scheduled to partake in an event at Feydhoo School tonight.

As MDP’s presidential primary looms – President Solih and MDP’s leader, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed who are going head-to-head in the election are both campaign in atolls presently.
