The land President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih promised to Male’ residents are currently underwater, states MDP leader and Parliament speaker, former president Mohamed Nasheed.

Nasheed, who is competing against President Solih for MDP’s presidential ticket, made the comment during a campaign event on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, Nasheed said President Solih’s administration does not have a constructive policy on issuing land and flats.

While providing housing to the residents of Male’ is the most important and biggest duty of the administration, the issue has been ignored by the current administration, he said.

Nasheed said the housing crisis remains unresolved not just because of lack of income, but also lack of land.

“The land President Solih is talking about is currently underwater. It would be better to mark the Vaadhoo Sea outside Gaadhookolu. It would be more spacious. And there’s also the Alihuras Sea,” he said.

Nasheed said that while the biggest issue facing Male’ residents is lack of housing, the issue is ignored by the administration.

At a campaign event earlier this week, President Solih promised that land would be issued to Male’ residents this year.

“This is not something I say to get votes. This has nothing to go with the election. As promised, Male’ residents will be allocated land by mid-year,” he said.

Criticizing President Solih, Nasheed said his administration’s policy is “its coming, coming”.

It’s the case with both the Ameenee Magu project and the Olympus cinema project, he said.
