Missing man found at Male’ café

One of two men reported missing after setting off from Vilimale’ on a fuel supply boat last week has been found at a café in Male’ City.

Mohamed Nizam, 45, Manaaru, GDh. Thinadhoo; and Mohamed Liton, 35, Bangladesh, went missing after departing from Vilimale’ on a fuel barge on December 28. The boat was found adrift off Hulhule’ the next day. There was no sign of any of the men.

A Twitter user, Ibrahim Mohamed posted a picture with a person who appears to be Nizam on Monday.

Ibrahim told Sun he found Nizam at a café near the Sheesha Service Center.

“I took a picture with him after people there said he was reported missing,” he said.

According to Ibrahim, Nizam told him that he went to the police headquarters after the police released his photo announcing him as a missing person.

Nizam was kept waiting at the headquarters for a long time and left after the police told him they weren’t looking for him.

Ibrahim said the police called him after he posted the picture on social media.

The police were not immediately available for comment.

The police said earlier Monday that they had widened the search to include Male’, in addition to the waters near Vilimale’.

Police have asked for anyone with information regarding their whereabouts to call the police hotline at 3322111 or the Serious and Organized Crime Department at 9911099.
