Bank of Maldives on Tuesday revealed that in their effort to continue supporting people with mobility impairments, an additional 33 motorised wheelchairs have been donated.

The bank commenced this programme in 2017, and with this addition, over 200 wheelchairs have been successfully delivered across Maldives.

Speaking about this, the CEO of BML Karl Stumke noted that supporting vulnerable communities has always been important to the bank.

“The wheelchair donation program has been instrumental in improving the lives of so many disabled people and their families. I would like to express my sincere thanks to our staff for their commitment in delivering the wheelchairs across the nation.”

In addition to this, BML has been supporting people with disabilities through various other programs.

Out of this, most recently, the bank has donated educational tools to aid Special Education Need students in 10 schools. They also partnered with Maldives Deaf Association to conduct special activities on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Furthermore, earlier this year, BML supported the association to develop a sign language dictionary as part of their strategy to empower and promote the rights of the deaf community in Maldives.
