A week to Nishama’s death, body yet to be flown abroad for postmortem

Maldives Police Service, on Sunday, revealed that Nishama Mohamed's body has yet to be flown abroad for postmortem a week into her death.

A Police Spokesperson confirmed to Sun this morning that Nishama’s body is yet to be sent abroad for postmortem. However, the Spokesperson said authorities are undertaking necessary efforts in this trajectory.

“Carrying out the necessary work to send her body abroad for postmortem,” the Spokesperson had said.

In an earlier statement to Sun, Nishama’s father Mohamed said that he was against performing a postmortem.

“Do not wish for her body to be brought to Male’, and then India to conduct postmortem examinations. Discussions are underway to initiate a lawsuit,” he stated.

Nishama was taken to Nolhivaram Health Centre at approximately 14:14pm on December 10th after she was discovered dead in her room, at her home.

Police have confirmed the arrest of Nishama’s husband, Aboobakuru Faisal, Rosy Villa, ADh. Fenfushi, under a court order in connection to her death.

Nishama’s husband, Faisal, is suspected of murdering her. He works as a technician at the Fenaka branch in Nolhivaram. Following Nishama’s death, he fled the island and went to Kulhudhuffushi.

He later turned himself in at Kulhudhuffishi Police Station. He was found hanging in a holding cell at the Kulhudhuffushi Police Station at approximately 11:15 pm on last Monday.

Faisal was brought to Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital at approximately 11:40pm on Monday night. A reliable source confirmed to Sun that Faisal’s heart was not beating when he was brought to the hospital. The source further stated that Faisal’s condition was critical, and he was being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

A family member of Nishama told Sun that they also suspect Faisal’s involvement in her death, and has made allegations of domestic violence against Faisal. 

However, a motive for the murder, or any further details remain unclear at the moment. 

Nishama is survived by three young children; a seven-year-old, a four-year-old and a two-year-old.
