Afcons Infrastructure has arranged housing for the victims of the fire which broke out at an accommodation block in K. Gulhifalhu on early Friday.
The fire broke out at an accommodation block that housed workers from Afcons – the Indian contractor awarded the project to develop the Thilamale’ Bridge.
It was reported to Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) at 12:31 am. According to MNDF, firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene. They managed to put out the fire at 01:52 am.
The accommodation block fully burned down in the fire. A total of 76 sustained injuries.
Planning Ministry’s Project Managing Department’s Mohamed Jinaah told Sun on Friday night Afcons have housing for the victims at Gulhifalhu and Hulhumale’ Phase II.
He added that Housing Development Corporation (HDC) provided assistance to Afcons to make the arrangements.
Out of the 76 people that sustained injuries – 63 people were treated at the Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumale’, while 13 were treated at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’.
While the cause of fire has yet to be identified as per Afcons – Police said that the case is under further investigation.
