41-year-old arrested for sexual abuse of a minor in Addu City

The alleged sexual abuse of an 11-year-old from Addu City has come to light.

A Police Spokesperson told Sun on Sunday that the sexual abuse of a girl from an island in Addu Atoll was reported to authorities on last Wednesday.

The Spokesperson confirmed the arrest of a 41-year-old Maldivian man in connection to the case under a court order. He was arrested on Thursday.

“When he was brought before the court for a remand hearing, a five-day timeframe was granted,” the Spokesperson added.

The case is under further investigation by the police. They have not disclosed the island of the victim in order to protect her identity and dignity.
