Thilamale’ Bridge project: Crane lifted out of sea, no delays in works

Planning Ministry has confirmed that the crane used in the construction of Thilamale’ Bridge which fell into the sea has been lifted out of the sea.

One of the cranes used by India’s Afcons in the construction of the Thilamale’ Bridge fell off a self-elevating platform due to a failed boom on Monday.

In a tweet on Tuesday revealing that the crane had been lifted out of the sea – Planning Ministry the incident caused no delays to the project.

“No changes are expected to the work schedule of this project as a result of this incident,” they had said.

Planning Ministry said the incident did not result in anything concerning; no injuries or damage to any other equipment.

The incident took place during installation of the permanent pillars of the bridge.

It comes after one of Afcon’s self-elevating platforms wrecked on Vilimale’ reef back in August, resulting in damages to the reef.

The company was fined MVR 69 million for damages.

It has not been disclosed whether the fine has been paid.
