UAE’s National Day celebrated in Maldives

The embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Male’ City, Maldives held a function on Sunday night, in celebration of the country’s 51st National Day.

The function was held at Hotel Jen, where the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Aminath Shauna attended as chief guest.

Additionally, the Ambassador from UAE to Maldives Abdulrahman Mohamed Hamad Saeed and other Maldivian government officials such as the Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed took part.

Celebrations involved a video presentation on the progress attained by the UAE over the years and cutting a cake.

Addressing the gathering Ambassador said that the relationship between Maldives and UAE was based on friendship and corporation with each other. He went on to note the work done with regard to the economy, business and climate change.

“Maldives is a popular tourist destination among the people of UAE. I happily note that numerous tourists from UAE visited Maldives over the past year.”

Furthermore, he stated that the visits made by government leaders between both nations were also proof of the close ties.

Meanwhile, Environment Minister Shauna in her speech said that UAE and Maldives share over 40 years of friendship.

“The relationship is based on things that benefit both people. It is based on Islam, culture, and traditions. There is a special place for UAE in the hearts of Maldivians.”
