Hivvaru boat survivors arrive in Addu

Survivors of Hivvaru boat, which was found after it had been missing for about ten days, have been taken to Addu.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Spokesperson Colonel Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef said tonight that the Coast Guard ship ‘Huravee’ arrived in Addu with the eight survivors of Hivvaru boat at 8:17pm.

He said that efforts are under way to take them to the hospital.

He said that all eight people are in good condition, but as it is important that they visit a doctor, MNDF will supervise them until this is completed.

A total of ten people were on-board Hivvaru boat when it went missing. Two people, a Bangladeshi and Hassan Futhaa, 76, of Sosunvilla, Gdh. Rathafandhoo, died in the incident.

The people taken to Addu by Coast Guard are three Bangladeshis, Ali Ameez, 11, of Kaafoorutholhige, S. Hithadhoo; captain Abdullah Nasru, 22, of Kaafoorutholhige, S. Hithadhoo; Mohamed Shiham Habeeb, 25, of Violetfehi, S. Hithadhoo; Mohamed Shaheem, 24 of Manzilge; and Hassan Khaleel, 42, of Lakshaneevilla, Maradhoo Feydhoo.

MNDF cited the boat captain and said that the Bangladeshi and Hassan Futhaa died while they were all on-board a dinghy after Hivvaru boat started sinking, and that their bodies were disposed of into the sea.
