Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has captured three Sri Lankan fishing boats found fishing illegally in the Maldives Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

In a tweet Saturday, MNDF said the boats were captured by Coast Guard ship Ghazi.

They shared photos of the fishing boats.

MNDF did not disclosed any details regarding the case.

The Counter-Illegal Fishing Regulation prescribes a fine of MVR 100,000 for unauthorized entrance to Maldives EEZ.

The latest incident comes after another Sri Lankan fishing boat was captured fishing illegally off K. Dhiffushi last November.

The boat was sighted by a local fishing boat.
