RTL extends free ferry service in Lhaviyani Atoll

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on Saturday announced extending free ferry service by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company’s (MTCC) Raajje Transport Link (RTL) to Lhaviyani Atoll.

The ferry services dubbed “Ahuluverikamuge Dhathuru” were branded free following the commencement of services on November 21. It was previously announced that the free ferry rides will end on November 27, and fares will be taken from the next day onwards/

However, the Planning Ministry has now stated that the services will remain free. The end date was not specified in this latest announcement.

Speaking with Sun, Council member Naifaru Ahmed Sajid said that until the ministry specifies a date, the service will go on.

MTCC has set the prices for inter-atoll trips between MVR 35 – 100, and from one atoll to the other at MVR 100 – 150. For Lhaviyani atoll, the fares charged will be between MVR 35 – 125.

The RTL ferry services are a presidential pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
