Criminal Court and High Court in recess until December's end

The Criminal Court and High Court went into recess on Wednesday, and won’t open until next year.

The council of judges of the courts made the decision to go into recess until December 31 on Wednesday.

According to the Criminal Court, only hearings in critical trials will be held during the period.

The court will also continue to hold remand hearings and issue orders requested by investigative agencies.

During recess, the Criminal Court will continue to:

Hold training programs for legal officers on criminal trial regulations

Discussion on criminal trial regulations with the court’s judges

A training program in collaboration with Dhivehi Bahuge Academy to familiarize the court’s staff with the language

A special staff meeting

Discussions with relevant institutions through the Department of Judicial Administration regarding ways to improve the court’s work
