Housing Ministry has said that Male’ City Council has opened the bidding for development projects for several areas in Male’ against regulations.

The Ministry said this in an announcement made in relation to City Council’s recent request for bids for the development of Male’ southern harbour, and the development of a park at Alimas Ufaa Carnival.

Housing Ministry said in its announcement that the Alimas Ufaa Carnival area was removed from the list of lands given to Male’ City Council on 20 September 2012.

The announcement said that City Council was informed of this on 2 October 2012; hence, the Council does not have any legal authority to open the bidding process for the development of this land.

It said that the Male’ southern harbour development project was also opened for bidding against the Ministry’s regulations.

Housing Ministry said that because the process followed by City Council for opening the projects for bidding was against regulations, the Ministry will not be responsible for pecuniary or any other damage suffered by groups who submit bids for the development of the regions of Alimas Ufaa Carnival and southern harbour of Male’.

Male’ City Council member Ibrahim Shujau told Sun Online in relation to this matter that the Council believes that Alimas Ufaa area is legally under the Council’s jurisdiction, thus the efforts to develop a park in the area will continue.

He said that they will also continue the efforts to develop the southern harbour.
