Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that the Commission has forwarded corruption cases involving MVR57 million to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) by the end of November this year.
In a report published by the ACC yesterday on the occasion of International Anti-corruption Day, the Commission said that this included 40 different cases and that the PG has been advised to pursue funds amounting to MVR31.23 million on behalf of the state.
ACC has not stated the details of these cases.
The Commission said that up until the end of August this year, they received a total of 706 cases of which, 679 cases had been considered eligible to be investigated and in turn, investigations on 258 cases had been completed.
They said that 120 of the cases considered eligible to be investigated were initiated by the Commission itself.
ACC said that due to various reasons, 125 cases were seen unfit for investigation.
The report also said that the Commission had worked hard to raise awareness about corruption and that one of their biggest challenges is the lack of a proper legal framework.
