The Department of National Registration (DNR) on Saturday reopened proposal submission for a party to redesign the Maldives’ National Identity Card.

Earlier this year, DNR opened application for this. However, having not received an adequate response, the previous announcement was dismissed, issuing a new one in its stead.

At the time of its previous announcement in June, DNR revealed their decision to introduce a smart ID card – with modern security features that provided a full guarantee of safety.

From the individuals submitting proposals for the new ID card, the winning design stands to win a monetary prize of MVR 200,000. Apart from this, those submitting the best three designs will be presented with official certificates, commemorating their achievement.

Whilst each applicant can submit one proposal – once submitted, it cannot be withdrawn.

The department detailed that in selecting the winning design – they will consider the expert skills of the applicant, the evaluation of the work carried out and the concept’s originality.

The new deadline set by DNR for proposal submission expires at 1300 hrs on Thursday, December 1.

The decision to redesign Maldives’ National Identity Card comes after many years.
